President Obama Has Accepted Our Invitation!
April 14, 2016
Members of the Rutgers Community:
I am delighted to announce that I have been informed by the White House that President Barack Obama has accepted our invitation and will present the Commencement Address at our 250th Anniversary University Commencement at High Point Solutions Stadium on Sunday, May 15.
This is the first time in Rutgers’ history that a sitting U.S. President has agreed to speak at Commencement, and we are deeply honored that President Obama will take part in this milestone event for the University. His decision is a testament to the enthusiastic efforts of Rutgers students, faculty, staff, alumni, and Board members, as well as members of the New Jersey Congressional delegation, who sent numerous messages to the White House urging the president to accept our invitation.
We look forward to having President Obama join us on this most celebratory occasion for Rutgers, during which we will confer more than 12,000 degrees upon our students from Rutgers University–New Brunswick and Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences and present honorary degrees to broadcast journalist Bill Moyers and astrophysicist Jocelyn Bell Burnell.
We are working closely with the White House on preparations for the President’s participation in Commencement, and as we receive information on the logistics we will inform the Rutgers community. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work with the White House in preparing for this historic event.
Sincerely,
Robert Barchi
